PHONOLOGICAL DESCRIPTION OF VOWEL HARMONY IN TÈÈ on SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
SUMMARY
AND CONCLUSION
The study attempted an autosegmental
analysis of Tèè vowel harmony. The language has seven oral and nasalized vowels
that participate in vowel harmony process. Two harmonic sets A [e o] and B [E
O]
with [i a u] as neutral vowels have been identified what is striking in the
language is the fact that the neutral vowels out number the [+ATR] and [-ATR]
harmonic sets, as such more instances abound involving them. This clearly shows
the language as having a partial harmony system. Using the derivation of Agentive nouns from verb stems, we have
accounted for the vowel harmony processes involved autosegmentally.
