RESEARCH METHODOLOGY ON EMPLOYEE RELATIONS PRACTICE OF AERO CONTRACTORS, PORT HARCOURT


RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
3.0 Introduction
          This chapter includes the research designs, research population: sampling size, measuring instruments, method of data collection and method of data analysis.
3.1 Research Design
          For the purpose of this study, the researcher employed the use of the survey research method in carrying out the study. The survey method is used because the nature of the study demands that it should be conducted in a real situation. Survey research method focuses on the vital characteristics of people and is most commonly used by behavioral scientists to measure sociological and psychological variable, opinions or attitudes.
3.2 Population of the Study
          The employees of Aero Contractors Company of Nigeria Limited, Port Harcourt formed the population of the study. This is to say, the population of this study was estimated at 390 employees.
3.3 Description of the Study Instrument
          The measure instrument adopted was questionnaire. The questionnaire was made up of 11 items. Items 1 and 2 were made to classify the respondents according to age and sex, items 3 and 4 were made to give answers to research questions, on items 8 and 9 were made to give answers to research question two, item 6 was made to give answers to research questions three, while items 10 and 11 were made to give answers t research question four.
3.4 Sample/Sampling Procedure
          To have a representative sample size, the researcher decided to use a sample size of 390. The samples were collected from both staff and contract staff in Aero Contractors Company.
3.5 Method of Data Collection
          The questionnaire was administered on the respondents personally by the researcher. Most of the collections were done at the spot but on exceptional cases where respondent gave reasonable excuses and requested for a call back out of the 390 copies of the questions answered.
3.6 Validity of the Instrument
          The study instrument was presented to the study supervisor who went through the instrument and gave her inputs before the copies were made.
3.7 Method of Data Analysis
          The researcher used the simple percentage and frequency score in analyzing the data generated from this study.
