RESEARCH
METHODOLOGY
3.0 INTRODUCTION
This chapter is mainly concerned with
the methodology that is adopted for this study. It bother itself with an
explication of key research terms such as research design, research population,
sample procedure, research instrument and method of data collection.
3.1 RESEARCH
DESIGN
This section addressed the plan,
structure and strategy of investigation of issues related to parental
involvement in communication development of their children.
Research design is the selection and
arrangement of research population for purpose of data collected.
In this study, the cross-sectional
survey method was used for this study. The cross sectional survey is useful for
describing sample or population on a number of variables. The sample here is
parents, this method is best suited for this research work.
3.2 AREA OF STUDY
This study covers Choba Local
Government Area of Rivers State. There are four (4) families that made up Choba
Local Government Area, but the researcher were restricted to two(2) and they

between 0-1year. And this research includes both the educated and non-educated
parents in Choba/Akpor Local Government Area. 50 parents were used in this work

sub-set of people or social phenomena to be studied from the larger universe to
which they belong. Payne & Payne, (2004, p.200). In this work the
researcher used the purposive sampling which is best suited for this study.
Purposive sampling is the researcher’s
own judgment about which elements to choose for the sample. This means that the
researcher picks only those who best meet the purpose of the study.
3.5 RESEARCH
INSTRUMENT
The instrument that was used in
collecting data for this research is the questionnaire. The questionnaire was
constructed by the researcher. It was designed to get as much information as
possible from the respondents who constitute the sample size of the study. The
questionnaire was made up of two(2) sections. Section A deals with personal
data while section B deals with questions relating to the parental involvement
in communication development of their children.
3.6 METHODS
OF DATA COLLECTION
The method used for collecting this
data was mainly by the used of questionnaire. A total of fifty (50) copies of
questionnaire were administered to the subjects making up the sample in Choba
Local Government Area.
3.7 METHOD OF DATA ANALYSIS
The researcher in this circumstance
has wisely applied the use of tables to analyze responses to the questionnaires
administered generally to solicit for the basic data. There is also the use of
simple percentage to arrive at the necessary statistic needed for this research
work.
