ASSESSING THE INFLUENCE OF WRSTERN TV PROGRAMS OF THE DRESS SENSE OF NIGERIA UNIVERSITY STUDENT

ABSTRACT
Television has become a household asset to many families in the world today with most homes having bought the set one or more for the family information and entertainment. The television viewing has been found to be influential in many ways both positive and negative on the usage of the facility. Television as a form of media, has pervaded our lives so thoroughly that we cannot imagine a world without it.
Television programmes are a way for us to know what is happening around the world.
These programmes have changed the ways we speak and interact with others, and the way we dress. Young people are highly influenced by images of stars and models shown on Tv.

The objective of this study was to assess the influence of western Tv programmes of the dress sense of the University of Port Harcourt students. A sample size of three hundred and forty was drawn using a simple random technique. The researcher developed a research questionnaire and distributed to elicit responses from respondents. The results showed that students exposed to western Tv programmes exhibited noticeable changes in the dress sense.
